Can't start graph with plugin installed in Neo4J Desktop 1.2.3 running Neo4J 3.5.12 on Windows 10

I can start a graph without a plugin, but when I install Graph Algorithms, startup fails with the warning

Database failed to start: DB [database-36454530-04bc-4ddb-8b5e-57befea3b758] 'v3.5.12' exited with status 'KILLED'. Check the logs

I found the logs, but it's a big file; where should I start copying from?

It would be helpful for you to attach the log file at least from where the stack traces began.

What version of Graph algorithms do you have in your project?

The version of the graph algorithms package is When I checked that, I noticed that the other two packages give the warning "Failed to find compatible version".

I think this might be the part of the log relevant to the problem:

This does not look good! I will let engineering know.

What happens if you create a different project, add the algos plugin, create the graph, and start the graph? Same problem?

Different problem, actually!

I can make a new project, but the option to install plugins is greyed out. When I open Neo4J, I get this error

"An error occurred while processing Graph Application Neo4j Etl Ui. Cannot resolve graph app type. Please check your internet connection or Graph App link."

If I try to create a new graph, Neo4J attempts to do so for a minute, then gives this error

"Database failed to create: Error: Could not change password"

I can't install plugins when there is no graph.

There is a new database in the directory .Neo4JDesktop\neo4jDatabases, but there's no debug file in the logs directory.

You are correct. You cannot add the plugin to the project until after the database is created as it needs a location for the plugin file.

I am curious, when you installed Neo4j Desktop, did you use the default, that is, only for this user and not for all users of the computer? I typically install Neo4j Desktop as Admin and select that all users can access the graphs. Also, I ALWAYS install Neo4j Desktop in the default location and never change where it is installed. Did you specify anything different from the defaults when you installed Neo4j Desktop? (if you remember!)

Hi Elaine,

I selected all users. On a previous installation, I had selected only myself, but I was running into errors and when I searched online, it seemed like the errors could be caused by only installing for myself. Other than that, I didn't changed any of the default settings.

So Pierce, can you give me a summary of where you are with starting the database that uses the graph algorithms library?

I cannot reproduce the error on my Windows system. One thing that I want to make sure of is that the folders where the database files live (including the plugins folder) is writable.

Hi Elaine,

I think I've fixed it. I have a graph with algorithms installed that can start up and run code.

I did it by uninstalling Neo4J, but selecting "Backup Neo4J files" in the uninstall wizard. I then deleted the backup and reinstalled Neo4J. That appeared to solve the problem.

Thanks for your help,

Wow! Sounds like a true workaround!

I applaud your perseverance!
